How is Ethan still alive?

However, Ethan survives due to the regenerative abilities he developed through the effects of the strain of mold from Louisiana. Shortly after, Ethan begins to hallucinate.
It was revealed that he survived the attack from Miranda due to his regenerative capabilities thanks to the Mold. Ethan wakes up in the Duke's carriage to find Rose and end Miranda once and for all. The Duke takes Ethan to the village where he finds Miranda with Rose, believing she is her daughter, Eva.
The mold infected Ethan's corpse, retaining his memories and consciousness and healing the body of its mortal wounds as Ethan revived. This infection also meant that Ethan possessed unnatural healing abilities, able to attach severed limbs with only the use of some medicinal serum to the wound.
Speaking during the broadcast, Winters' Expansion director Kento Kinoshita addressed the topic directly. It turns out that Ethan is extremely camera shy. Even if you turn the camera to try and get a front-on view, Ethan will turn his face away, stopping you from getting a proper look.
But Capcom was pretty adamant that Ethan's chapter had come to a close. The only way Ethan could've survived was if enough of the Mutamycete remained to have his consciousness, and somehow a body was made for him. Which would bypass everything Miranda was trying to do in the first place.
As it turns out, Ethan and Mia had contracted regenerative powers from their exposure to the spores, which explains why both of them--along with the menacing Jack Baker--can recover from wounds.

Due to this revelation, Ethan is able to live even when his heart is ripped apart from his body by Miranda.
Is the mold the T virus?
While the Resident Evil series is full of bizarre, terrifying creatures, it's important to remember that those creatures all originated from real-life concepts. The t-Virus was born of retrovirus research, Las Plagas was a revived species of parasitic arthropod, and the Mold is, well, mold.
Upon arrival, Ethan does manage to find Mia, but she has been infected with a black mold that makes her not quite human. In Resident Evil 7's canon ending, Ethan manages to cure Mia and the two of them escape from the Baker family plantation with the help of Chris Redfield.

Of course, Resident Evil Village (RE8) connects to Resident Evil 7 biohazard (RE7) by being a direct continuation of its events. Our main character from RE7, Ethan Winters, stars as the playable character in RE8.

The only reason Ethan does not reveal himself sooner is that he feels it would overcomplicate the situation, and his primary concern is simply to help Rose escape the stratum now that she is there.
The surprise reveal is that the figure is none other than Ethan Winters himself walking down the road. Despite it being well over a decade after Ethan Winters' death, here he is again, unaged, hand still remained, in the same outfit as players left him even after he gave his jacket to baby Rose and Chris Redfield.

How Did Ethan's Hands Manage to Survive Everything? It isn't surprising at this point that Ethan was able to reattach his right hand using First Aid Medicine, which is basically a magic potion that can heal skin, muscle, and bone.
Because Capcom decided on Rose's cliffhanger as its narrative DLC for Resident Evil Village, it is now expected that Resident Evil 9 will follow Chris as its playable protagonist. Either way, Shadows of Rose will not want or need to elaborate on any characters other than Rose, and maybe her mother Mia.
It looks like Resident Evil 9 will take Capcom's iconic and everlasting horror game series in a new direction, as the developer has confirmed that the upcoming Resident Evil Village Shadows of Rose DLC will conclude the storyline of the Winters family.

Rosemary Winters or simply Rose is the daughter of Ethan and Mia Winters. She is a pivotal deuteragonist of Resident Evil Village and the titular main protagonist of its DLC, Shadows of Rose.
Why did Chris take Rose re8?
Chris taking Rosemary from Mia might have been a move to keep her away from the BSAA and other powerful organizations that seek to use her powers. He would have then trained Rose to control her powers (something she admits to in the epilogue of the main game) just in case she needed to use them.
The voice actor, who voiced Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil 6, also gave a reason for Leon's exclusion, stating that Capcom is "scaling back" the use of the usual characters. "As far as 7 goes, I think they're scaling back a little bit on throwing in all the classic cameos," said Mercer.
It remains unclear why Capcom decided to change Chris's appearance drastically. Still, it appears that the studio has heard the criticisms of fans, which is likely why it reused an older version of Resident Evil 5 and 6 Chris in Resident Evil Village.
